The movie set has a very charming outlook.

The adventure begins!
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/3a-img_1274-hobbiton-fishing-spot.jpg?w=1024)
A little fishing could be a good thing.
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/3a1-img_1374-a-little-fish-processing.jpg?w=1024)
A fish processing area.
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/3b-img_1251-the-smokehouse.jpg?w=1024)
And off to the smokehouse.
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/3c-img_1238-a-fine-gardener-lives-here.jpg?w=1024)
The gardener that lives here certainly gets Lynne’s approval.

A farm to provide the local produce!

![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/7a-img_1255-the-bee-hives.jpg?w=1024)
A beekeeper must tend these bee hives!

By the look of the bottles lying around, the town lush must live here.
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/7-img_1295-the-pumpkin-and-the-pipe.jpg?w=1024)
Our reader must have gone inside to get more tobacco for his pipe!
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/10-img_1257-hobbit-homes-under-tree.jpg?w=1024)
This tree has an unusual story. The Hobbit trilogy had a prequel filmed after the original. Director Sir Peter Jackson wanted a smaller version of the tree so the prequel would look authentic.
He replaced it with a smaller synthetic replica, and then didn’t like the shade of the leaves. Painters working from bucket cranes repainted all 70,000 leaves!
![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/12-img_1270-butterfly-on-zinnia.jpg?w=1024)
This little beauty is a Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus), the same species common to North America.
Sir Peter Jackson didn’t have these brought in. They are New Zealand’s most commonly recognized butterfly. They are thought to have island hopped their way across the Pacific from North America and were first observed in New Zealand in 1873.

![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/13a-img_1298-2-no-admittance-2.jpg?w=750)
I wonder when the party starts?

We’re happy to see you! Won’t you stop in for a cup of tea?

![](https://grampafacts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/16a-img_1343-2-the-green-dragon-inn.jpg?w=1024)
They say it’s called the Green Dragon Inn.
